When are the Movie Nights?
I try to have them every other month, right after the cleaning people come. Sometimes we move the dates around a bit. They are always on a Saturday evening, except the New Years Eve Party.
If I’m on the list, am I expected to come every month?
No! You’ll get Facebook invitations. If you want to come, RSVP to the Facebook event. If you aren’t coming, no need to reply. We do RSVP so we know how many are coming – this helps people know how much food to bring. It also helps make sure we have enough room for everyone.
How do I RSVP?
Just accept the Facebook event invitation, or send Katie an email some other way. Let her know who all is coming, and what you are bringing. No need to do anything if you’re not coming. (But if you’re a regular it’s still nice to let her know you can’t come.)
What is the format?
We do a pot luck dinner before the movie. This is informal social time for everyone. When it’s time for the movie, we move to the living room, have a cartoon, and then the movie.
What can I bring?
Everyone should bring a pot luck item, and bring what you want to drink. Each month we rotate someone to bring a main dish. We don’t try to assign side dishes and desserts alphabetically, but I have observed that people are health conscious these days, so we only get a few desserts.
What kinds of movies do we see?
The group started with my lesbian social group, so we tend to have more women’s type movies. This will branch out over time as we get a broader group. We’ve had interest in musicals, “chick flicks”, computer antimated cartoons, comedies, just about anything. Check out what’s on the schedule to get an idea. We do take requests for future movies.
Examples of movies we’ve seen include: The Producers, Sassy Pants, The Kings Speech, Wish Me Away, Snow Cake, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Show Tunes, Ma vie en rose (My life in pink), Tomboy, Grease Sing-Along, Albert Nobbs, Steel Magnolias, Kissing Jessica Stein, Mamma Mia, Different for Girls, Hairspray, The Help, Circumstance, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Tipping the Velvet, Normal, Fried Green Tomatoes, Burlesque, First Wives Club, Better than Chocolate.
Why is it always at Mary Ann’s home?
If you’ve seen Mary Ann’s home theater, you’ll understand. It’s not your ordinary TV set. The screen measures 150 inches.
How many people can you fit?
We’ve had 22 at a time, and if a few are willing to sit on the floor chairs (I have some) and bar stools in the kitchen, we should be able to accommodate at least 25. We had 30 for Different for Girls, including 7 in the family room watching on the “small” TV (it’s only 75 inches).
